Apple is now giving customers an additional 15 days to renew AppleCare+ coverage for their Apple devices after the plan initially expires. The company silently increased the timeframe from 30 days to 45 days.

However, the change only applies to selected EU countries, the US, the UK, and select other markets.

Extended time period for AppleCare+ renewal only applies to some markets

Apple allows you to extend the AppleCare+ coverage for your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch after it expires. This is only applicable if you paid for the extended warranty upfront. The company provides an extra 30 days for renewal once the initial coverage expires.

Apple has silently updated its support page to extend the renewal period to 45 days (via MacRumors). The change applies to most of the company’s key markets. The full list of countries where the change applies is listed below:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • the Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • the UK
  • the US

Once your upfront AppleCare+ coverage expires, you can renew it by paying for a monthly or annual plan for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. For Macs, the renewal coverage must be a yearly plan. Apple’s extended renewal timeframe for AppleCare+ does not apply to mainland China. There, you must extend your AppleCare+ coverage within 30 days of expiry.

Buy AppleCare+ coverage within 60 days of getting a new Apple product

Remember that this 45-day extension does not apply to initial AppleCare+ coverage. You must buy the extended warranty plan within 60 days of device activation.

Apple last made a major change to AppleCare+ in December 2021. It enabled iPhone or Mac users to add coverage to their devices after being repaired at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. The device must be under a year old and in good condition to be eligible.

You can buy AppleCare+ for new or Apple Certified refurbished products to extend its warranty by up to two years and include damage protection.
