Hi all, I posted a related question here: https://superuser.com/questions/1851108/i-edited-an-excel-workbook-all-of-yesterday-while-save-save-as-was-greyed-out-t?noredirect=1 but my focus on the issue has changed, so I thought I could post a new question.
I last saved an excel workbook on July 30, and after restarting my laptop I edited my workbook all day whilst the save and save as buttons were greyed out, without understanding the underlying problem of why they were greyed out. I am going to try and buy a product key from a Microsoft parter at
hypestkey.com/category/office-for-mac/microsoft-office-for-mac-2021
or
hypestkey.com/category/office-for-mac/microsoft-office-2016-mac
to re-activate Office, but I also want to save the current version of the workbook, in order to avoid having to repeat a lot of work.
I am now under the impression that the activation process with the product key is likely to involve either uninstalling/reinstalling Excel, or closing/opening excel. If this should be the case, the current version of my Excel workbook is probably lost. Therefore I would like to know, would the process of activating Office be any less likely to involve closing/opening or uninstalling/reinstalling Excel if I bought a product key for my current version of Office (2021, perhaps the same as the first link?) than for an old version (2016, second link)?
Side questions:
Would the license for either of these keys be valid in perpetuity (not for just a year or something like that)?
To redeem a product key from Hypestkey: can I do this by going to
office.com/?auth=1
and then
setup.office.com/redeem/enter-key?source=harmony
