Since the launch of Bing Image Creator in March of 2023, billions of images have been created. We consistently see image generation as one of the top reasons our users turn to AI, from letting their imagination run wild, bringing an idea to life, or finding the perfect image for their next project.

You can try this yourself by typing “create an image of…” in the search bar.

Responsible AI

At Microsoft, our teams are guided by our Responsible AI principles and the Responsible AI Standard to help them develop and deploy AI systems responsibly. We’ve put controls in place that aim to limit the generation of harmful or unsafe images. When Bing Image Creator detects that a potentially harmful image could be generated by a prompt, it automatically blocks the prompt and informs the user.

We also make it clear that Bing Image Creator’s images are generated by AI. A watermark appears in the bottom left corner of each image created using Image Creator. We have implemented content credentials, provenance based on the C2PA standard, to help users to identify AI generated Images. We allow living artists, celebrities, and organizations to make requests to limit the creation of images associated with their names and brands via the AI-powered features option on our Report a Concern form.
