Stockport Homes Group Leverages LMS for Compliance Training Success

Award-winning U.K.-based housing association Stockport Homes Group recently joined a Litmos LinkedIn Live session titled “Litmos Learning Break: Compliance Training Success with Stockport Homes.”

During this conversation, Stockport Homes Group’s Learning & Development (L&D) Partners Jade Whittle and John Madden chatted with Litmos’ Customer Success Manager Stephen Farrar about how their organization was able to successfully transition from traditional in-person compliance workshops, to an online compliance training program, and how they used their Learning Management System (LMS) to achieve compliance goals, overcome common compliance training challenges, and meet the latest U.K. regulatory requirements through compliance training.

Making mandatory and optional compliance training more engaging

In the webinar, Madden and Whittle discussed how their organization has transformed its compliance training by leveraging their Litmos LMS for compliance. They emphasized the importance of blending mandatory and optional courses to create engaging learning experiences and mentioned the high levels of engagement they achieved with optional neurodiversity awareness courses and mental health awareness trainings.

Discussing how Stockport Homes leverages their Litmos library of pre-made courses Madden stated, “For neurodiversity, we’re just picking off what you guys have got already and then putting it together. That really helps us kick it off with minimal fuss.” Whittle added, “We’re really trying to bring that culture of learning through Litmos… we’ll see people accessing the system to do courses that aren’t mandatory, that they want to do.”

The duo also mentioned how they use the gamification features of their LMS to drive engagement. “We’ve put some fun in there [through] gamification and the optional courses,” Whittle explained. “And I think when senior leadership teams and executives see that people have that desire to learn and they’re logging in and doing that learning without someone saying, ‘You absolutely must do this,’ that really helps build that culture [of learning.]”

Saving time and prioritizing strategy with automation and self-service LMS features

Stockport Homes has effectively used their Litmos LMS’ automation and self-service features to save time and enable a more strategic focus on learning. The organization used their LMS to automate compliance tasks like reminders and manager escalations, freeing up their lean L&D team to focus on creating engaging and effective training programs.

Madden compared Stockport Homes’ old compliance training process to their current, more automated one, explaining, “We had six courses that colleagues had to do, but there were no checks on those of when they had to be re-done. Now, we’re getting more knowledge by checking on the [Litmos] Dojo. We can set up teams, for example, and we can get the reminders done automatically, get the manager set up to review it.”

Aligning employees across the organization with shared values and objectives

An integrated LMS can help align employees with the organization’s values and work towards its objectives. At Stockport Homes, their LMS was used to instill the organization’s values across the workforce, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.

Madden and Whittle illustrated how their LMS was instrumental in aligning their workforce with Stockport Home’s values. Jade mentioned, “One of our groups wants to deliver excellent customer service, which is driven by customer feedback and experience. So, we can use customer feedback – the voices of our customers – to help us shape our learning initiatives.”

This focus on aligning learning with organizational values has evidently paid off. Since implementing Litmos, Stockport Homes has achieved a significant increase in compliance rates, with rates currently between 96% and 98%.

The organization has also used Litmos to create bespoke training content, including a course on Damp, Mold, and Condensation that helped them stay compliant with recent U.K. housing regulations. When discussing future plans for Stockport Homes, Madden and Whittle enthusiastically explained the ways in which they hope to integrate Litmos with their people management system. Other goals include: creating a training needs matrix for every role within the organization, finding new subject matter experts to create more learning content, and continuing gamification and engagement initiatives to drive compliance completion rates.
