Officials in Lancaster County, Pa., want Franklin & Marshall College to stop talking about county employees.
The local Board of Commissioners’ office sent the college a cease and desist letter last week after a college employee raised concerns publicly about the county’s handling of student voter registrations, LancasterOnline reported. The employee alleged that the county had given students incorrect information about voter registration requirements and delayed approval of their applications.Â
The county commissioners’ office has denied the allegations.
The college submitted a rebuttal to the county’s letter but didn’t provide either document to LancasterOnline. The lone Democrat on the board said this week that she didn’t support sending the cease and desist letter.
An F&M spokesperson told the news site that the letter warned the college to not talk about county employees.
“We were never complaining,” he said. “We were asking why the students had not been registered yet, after the students’ applications had been dropped off weeks earlier. But we were not complaining. We were not making accusations. We were just simply asking why the students were not registered.”
The spokesperson declined to comment further “until we see all our students get registered.”
