Apple released iOS 18.0.1 on Thursday to fix an annoying bug that made the touchscreen unresponsive on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. The new iPadOS 18.0.1 corrects several problems, too, including one that bricked some M4 iPad Pro units when installing the original iPadOS 18 version.

In addition, macOS Sequoia 15.0.1 also arrived Thursday with minor bug fixes.

iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1 remove headline-making bugs

Shortly after the debut of the iPhone 16 series in September, some users complained of intermittent touchscreen problems. That’s one of the bugs squished by iOS 18.0.1. The full list of problems Apple says are taken care of by the new iPhone patch are:

  • Touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive in certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models
  • Camera may freeze when recording macro mode video on the Ultra Wide camera in 4K with HDR turned off on iPhone 16 Pro models
  • Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
  • Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPhone models

Apple’s premier tablet suffered its own problems. Most notably, Apple pulled the iPadOS 18 upgrade for the M4 iPad Pro after it bricked some units. But iPadOS 18.0.1 is safe to install. Apple says other bugs taken care of by the just-released iPad patch include:

  • Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
  • Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPad models

And don’t forget macOS Sequoia 15.0.1. None of the bugs in the original version of macOS Sequoia made headlines. They include, according to Apple:

  • Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
  • Improves compatibility with third-party security software

How to install these patches

iPhone and iPad users can install iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS iOS 18.0.1 directly by opening the Settings app and going to General > Software Update. Alternatively, you can update your devices by connecting them to a Mac (or to a PC running iTunes).

To download the macOS Sequoia update, go to the Apple menu  > About This Mac. Then click Software Update. Alternatively, you can install the new version from the App Store. (Note: At the time of this writing, Apple had not yet updated the version of macOS in the App Store. But it should happen soon.)
