WhatsApp on Tuesday announced another update coming for its users. This time, the messaging platform is introducing new camera filters and backgrounds that can be used during video calls. Read on as we detail how WhatsApp’s new effects work.
WhatsApp adds new camera effects for video calls
According to WhatsApp, the new filters make video calls “more engaging” by adding a “personal touch” to them. Of course, users can also enable backgrounds to hide their surroundings.
“Filters are designed to help you create a more playful atmosphere, whether that’s adding a splash of color or creating a more artistic feel for your video. With backgrounds, you can keep your surroundings private and transport yourself to a cozy coffee shop or comfortable living room for a more clean and polished look,” the company said in a note to 9to5Mac.
With 20 effect options, you can create unique looks by selecting and mixing options. Filters include Warm, Cool, Black & White, Light leak, Dreamy, Prism light, Fisheye, Vintage TV, Frosted glass, and Duo tone. Backgrounds include Blur, Living room, Office, Cafe, Pebbles, Foodie, Smoosh, Beach, Sunset, Celebration, and Forest.
In addition, the update also adds the option to adjust the look and brightness of the environment shown on the camera. Users can find the new effects by tapping the new icon at the top right of the screen during an individual or group video call.
A few weeks ago, WhatsApp also announced improvements to the Channels feature. With the update, users can now find new Channels to follow by category. These categories include People, Organizations, Lifestyle, Sports, Entertainment, Businesses, and News & Information.
WhatsApp for iPhone and Mac is available for free on the App Store.
