How to find the best restaurants in Capri and Anacapri
The island of Capri is actually made up of two cities: Capri (KAH-pree) and Anacapri (ah-na-KAH-pree). When you come from the Amalfi Coast by boat, you’ll likely land at Marina Grande on the north side. From there, you’re within walking distance of the main piazzetta (square) of Capri where the luxury shopping, hotels, and restaurants are found. The famous Faraglioni rocks are on the east side of Capri, and many hotels have restaurants perched on the cliffs for panoramic views.
From here, you can rent a vespa, hire a taxi, or take a bus to get to the west side of the island where Anacapri is found. It’s where you’ll find the Monte Solaro chairlift, the Blue Grotto, and the Punta Carena lighthouse (all fun things to do in Capri). Most restaurants in Anacapri will be in the center of town, though a few are on the cliff sides, too.
1. Le Grottelle
Price: $$, secluded dining away from town; vegetarian options
Location: Capri
We’ll start our list of the best restaurants in Capri with a view at Le Grottelle. It requires a trek up a hill beyond the city of Capri, so have your phone’s flashlight handy for the walk back to town at night. What you get is utter seclusion in nature, just 120 meters away from Natural Arch. Parts of the restaurant are in caves, and others are open on the terrace with natural greenery accenting the view. When it’s time to order, try the catch of the day (perhaps swordfish!), homemade ravioli, and lemon cake!
2. Godò Capri
Price: $$+; reservations recommended; fine dining
Location: Capri
This newer restaurant is making waves in Capri. Godò Capri is intimate, swanky, and worthy of a Michelin star, in our humble opinion. Velvet chairs, mid-century modern accents, and a rich tapestry of colors make this a romantic place to dine in downtown Capri. And the food looks as beautiful as the decor—and tastes equally amazing! We recommend the smoked sea bass with lemon cream, lamb chops with eggplant caviar, or the creamy carbonara with perfectly crunchy guanciale (pork jowls, like bacon).
3. Villa San Michele (Billy’s Bar)
Price: $; cafe and light snacks
Location: Anacapri
Built on the ruins of an ancient church, Villa San Michele is a cultural icon for locals in Capri. You’ll find a museum of Roman and Etruscan artifacts, live cultural events, a serene garden, a castle on a rocky cliff, and Billy’s Bar. The name belies the appeal. We think it’s the perfect place to stop for an Italian coffee and a light lunch of appetizers and small plates. Billy’s Bar is a quieter spot away from tourists and your table could be at the edge of the terrace overlooking the deep blue sea.
4. Ristorante La Zagara
Price: $$; reservations required; located in Casa Mariantonia hotel; open seasonally
Location: Anacapri
Is dining under aromatic lemon trees on your bucket list? Then head to Ristorante La Zagara. In the heart of Anacapri, this dreamy restaurant makes for an intimate setting and a memorable lunch or dinner during the tourist season. With lemons dangling just overhead, you’ll be tempted to order every lemon-flavored dish on the menu—especially the limoncello. But make sure to try seared octopus with a miso sorbet, the tagliolini with lime tuna tartare, or the catch of the day with a salt-crust and lemon dressing.
5. Cinquantaduecento Capri
Price: $$; unique variety of foods; very small location
Location: Capri
The name translates to “5200,” referring to the zip code of Arezzo, a city in Tuscany. Blending the flair of Capri with the flavors of Tuscany, Cinquantadeucento Capri is a delightful, small restaurant with a modern vibe. It’s the perfect place to eat in Capri if you’re hoping for a medium rare bistecca (steak) or tartare di manzo (beef tartare) with mango and avocado. You’ll find an array of wines from Chianti to Capri and everything in between, so just ask your waiter for their recommendation with your meal.
6. Grand Hotel Quisisana – Restaurant Colombaia
Price: $$; located in the hotel; ideal for lunch or dinner
Location: Capri
Luxury and panoramic views from the pool that overlooks the famous Faraglioni rocks are what await you at the prestigious Grand Hotel Quisisana. Restaurant Colombaia is one of the best restaurants in Capri with a view and service to match. It’s here that the original insalata caprese was invented, so don’t hesitate to order it as an appetizer and indulge in an authentic Capri tradition. The menu changes often, but you’ll love each dish that’s crafted for visual and taste appeal.
7. Restaurant il Riccio
Price: $$$+; reservations required; dessert room
Location: Anacapri
If you’re ready to splurge on an unforgettable meal, then Restaurant il Riccio is the place. Known as one of the best restaurants in Capri, Italy, il Riccio has been noted by the Michelin Guide as a worthy fine dining restaurant. Best of all, it’s perched near the famous Blue Grotto, so you could go for a swim after your meal. Frutti di mare (seafood) adorns the menu here, but you don’t want to miss their dedicated dessert room. It’s a feast for the eyes, the soul, and the belly.
8. Al Grottino
Price: $$; one of the oldest restaurants in Capri; vegetarian options
Location: Capri
In the heart of downtown Capri, you’ll find a bright, homey restaurant with high white walls, arched ceilings, and cozy seating. Al Grottino makes you feel like you’ve entered the home of an Italian family where nonna (grandma) has been cooking homemade pasta, gnocchi, and ravioli all day. Since 1937, the family has been specializing in seafood pastas, tiramisu, and so much more. Don’t overlook this wonderful place to eat, especially if you only have a few hours to spend in Capri.
9. Columbus Capri
Price: $$; vegetarian options; outdoor terrace
Location: Anacapri
Situated near the chairlift that ascends to Monte Solaro—one of our favorite things to do in Capri—there’s a yummy restaurant and cafe that’s as homey and welcoming as you could hope for. Columbus Capri is one of our favorite restaurants in Capri, and they even offer cooking classes! Best of all, they grow their own vegetables and make their own olio d’oliva (olive oil), so your food is as fresh as can be. The caprese sausage with grigliate verdure (grilled vegetables) tastes even better under their terrace that’s draped with grape vines.
10. Sciue’ Sciue’
Price: $$; casual lunch and dinner spot
Location: Anacapri
There’s a sweet, unassuming restaurant that always makes us happy when we eat there: Sciue’ Sciue’. It has a very local vibe to it, yet you will find tourists as well. We like going here for lunch when we want a casual place to people watch while enjoying an outdoor meal on Anacapri’s main shopping street. The lemon pizza is a top favorite food to try here, but so is their pasta with mussels. For dessert, indulge in the torta caprese, which is a sumptuous chocolate almond flourless cake.
11. Da Gelsomina
Price: $$$; reservations recommended; shuttle pickup available
Location: Anacapri
On the property of the same-named B&B sits this stunning little restaurant that’s recommended by the Michelin Guide and is an ideal place for a romantic getaway meal. Da Gelsomina is a restaurant in Capri with views for days, their own vineyard and gardens, and an unhurried serenity away from mass tourism. Their claims to fame are pollo al mattone, a whole chicken cooked in a wood-fired oven, and coniglio alla cacciatora (rabbit cacciatore). When you’re done, wander through the nearby Philosophical Park for your evening passeggiata.
Bonus: Capri Rooftop Bar
Price: $$; cocktails and appetizers only
Location: Capri
We have to include Capri Rooftop for one reason: the views of Faraglioni. While it’s not a restaurant, it’s a great place to enjoy the vibe and vistas of Capri when you’re ready for an evening aperitivo or an after-dinner drink in the moonlight. The terrace is beautiful at any time of day, and you’ll enjoy the crafted cocktails and vino (wine) available with small appetizer plates.
